Care Baskets for Emganwini

We recently connected with some families in Emganwini in Bulawayo. Emganwini is one of the high-density suburbs of Bulawayo.  It is located about 12km, South West of the City along the road to the border town of Plumtree. The community is home to just over 40 000 residents. In spite of its sizeable population the infrastructure in this community is still very limited. There are only three public primary schools and one Secondary school. There is no Council clinic in the area. The privately run clinic that is there is very expensive and many residents walk about 5 km to the nearest council clinic in the suburb of Nketa.

This community has found a place in our hearts. Through the help of one of the local churches in the community we managed to connect with a few families.  Most of these families are headed by single parents or aged grandparents that are looking after their children or grandchildren. All of them are not working and are struggling to put food on the table. With the help of people like you we are helping them with monthly food hampers. The food humpers, which we call Care Baskets, consist of the following food items: mealie meal, cooking oil, sugar, salt, soya chunks, sugar beans, Kapenta (dried fish). We also put in a bar of washing soap and a tablet of bath soap. This simple care basket cost just under US$20.
